My message this week is simple and to the point.

“Where there is a will, there is a way.”

As the evangelist for Planned Giving, I’m referring to people creating or updating a will – which paves the way for including a planned gift to support your organization.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a spike in people creating their wills.  And with the pandemic surging again, greater urgency around creating wills likely continue for the foreseeable future.

Even with the increased interest in will creation, plenty of people still don’t have one. In fact, a Gallup poll released in June found that less than half – 46% – of Americans have a will.

An oft-mentioned barrier to people creating a will is that many simply don’t want to think about their own mortality.  But by emphasizing the potential of Planned Giving, you can shift the focus from dreading mortality to building a legacy.

And who isn’t intrigued by the prospect of leaving a legacy that will endure long after they’re gone?

August is national Make-a-Will-Month. This offers a prime opportunity for you to communicate with donors about how they can leave a legacy through a bequest that will support your mission and good works for decades and generations to come.
